Supporting your careers guidance at open events and in schools

16th July 2019 by Stephen Lockhart

Where you run face-to-face careers sessions or interact with students and parents at open events, Pathways can help here too. Pathways Solo enhances the support and guidance you already provide with instant access to consistent, high-quality and up-to-date careers and progression information for over 360 careers directly from your iPad.

When you embed Pathways in your College website you are mapping your courses to future careers across all subject areas. Prospective students and their parents, when visiting your website, get a better understanding of the route to their chosen career. A fuller understanding of their careers options, and you can be more confident that they are better suited to the courses for which they apply.

“Awareness of labour market demand helps learners make realistic adjustments when firming up their choices.”
The Gatsby Benchmark Toolkit, The Careers & Enterprise Company

Throughout the year you will be running careers workshops with students, outreach sessions with local schools and open events with prospective students and their parents.

Pathways can support your staff through these face-to-face sessions. Not only is Pathways embedded into your website pages, but can also be used as a standalone tool called Pathways Solo.

Pathways Solo at open events and in schools

Pathways Solo can be launched from your iPad (or any web browser) and gives your Careers Leaders, Teaching and Support staff instant access to consistent, high-quality and up-to-date careers and progression information.

It can be used in face-to-face sessions and gives your staff all the information they need to advise on progression routes and labour market information for over 360 careers.

When getting feedback from colleges who are using Pathways Solo, we hear that it gives them the additional information and confidence to discuss all career types and respond to questions across a full range of careers. The benefit being all staff can be confident in providing detailed careers information about possible career destinations, not just your Careers Leaders.

The information is also consistent, so you can be confident what you show on your college website matches the information given by staff in school liaison sessions, open events, guidance sessions and ad-hoc discussions in the classroom.

“It was both reassuring and satisfying to see staff, prospective students and parents all engaging with this one tool during open events. Pathways is versatile and adds significant value to conversations across the College.”
Phillip Berry, Assistant Principal, St Brendan’s Sixth Form College

Pathways Solo is included in your standard Pathways license at no extra cost. It is accessible from within your Admin area and can easily be added to your iPad home screen for quick launch.
